The "Vital Pyramid" model was first introduced by former SAS member John "Lofty" Wiseman to describe the four core elements required for a possible successful outcome of a confrontation: Mindset, Tactics, Skills and Kit
Contrary to Jeff Cooper's "Combat Triad" or our "Protection Pentagon" all four elements are not necessarily dependent on each other and possible success in an aggressive or violent confrontation is therefore largely dependent on the elements that build on each other.
All three models offer a good opportunity in combination to explain the significance of one's own way of thinking or mindset.
Mindset - Every action requires a robust decision so that you are committed and prepared to endure all the consequences within the further course and also the consequences afterwards. This includes keeping a clear head and focusing on the "desired end result".
Tactics - Not all skills are suitable for all situations. Tactics is about using knowledge of one's own abilities and their limits as well as possible knowledge of the physical and mental abilities of another person and the environment to close or increase the "gap" between oneself and another person to one's own advantage.
The tactic focuses on a planned, adaptive "interaction" between oneself, the other person and the environment.
Skills - Technical skills and knowledge. This includes ensuring the identification, maximization and development of required resources. The term resources in this context includes any kind of physical aspects such as technique, endurance, strength, adaptability, speed.
Kit - Any item for defensive and offensive use. The purpose of using an item is to close or increase the "gap" between yourself and another person to your own advantage.
