Catch Wrestling or Catch as Catch Can Wrestling originated several hundred years ago in Lancashire, England and was further developed and refined during the British Empire (1490 to mid 1900). It gained its worldwide notoriety through its dominance in matches against other wrestling styles around the mid-19th century.
During this time, this wrestling style consisting of takedowns, throws, ground-based technique elements (grappling) also found its way to North America via immigrants and world travelers and became established there.
As the official German representatives and German Headquarters of Snake Pit U.S.A., we proudly carry on the history and tradition of the legendary Snake Pit name. We have combined the American Catch Wrestling philosophy of "submission from any position" with the original, painful "Old School" wrestling techniques from Wigan, England, the birthplace of Catch as Catch Can Wrestling.
The term "No Holds Barred" has its origin in Catch Wrestling, because originally there are no illegal submissions, holds, pins or takedowns, which makes it extremely effective and efficient for both martial arts and self-defense.
Catch Wrestling, in addition to the sporting aspect, forms for us the basis of our wrestling elements in Combatives - Krav Maga and thus a component for effective self-defense in conflict situations.

We are currently not a competition team and do not aim to shift our focus in this direction. If regular competition participation and performance-oriented training are your motivation, there are contact persons who concentrate exactly on this area.
However, if you would like to get a structured insight into Catch Wrestling and use this as a well-founded introduction to the topic of clinch and ground fighting, then we would be happy to assist you with our seminars and training sessions.
In our opinion, it does not hurt to think outside the box, to expand your knowledge and technical understanding thoughtfully, but... within our training structures we make a strict, contextual separation between Combatives - Krav Maga and Catch Wrestling.
